Do you ever find yourself wondering, how did I get here?

When it comes to my cake business, I find myself wondering that often. I never would’ve imagined what would become of a pipe dream of starting a bakery from my kitchen. Only the Lord knew where we would go!

It began in the late summer of 2014. My husband and I had moved to George, IA with our 16 month old daughter, Savannah, with hearts full of excitement about where this new beginning would take us. My husband had taken a job at the local school district as a high school math teacher and I planned to stay home with our daughter.

If you know Tyler, you know that he isn’t one for making a big deal about himself, so when I asked him to bring cupcakes to school for his birthday, he was reluctant. Mind you, his birthday fell on one of the first days of Inservice… on his first year at a new job. So I understand his hesitancy. I credit the start of my business first and foremost to the Lord, but also to my husband, for understanding how much his wife wanted this little baking business to work out and for allowing himself to be outside his comfort zone to give it a chance!

I told him as he left for school on August 21, 2014 with cupcakes in hand that if by some off chance someone asked if I took orders for cupcakes to tell them yes. I can say with complete honesty that I had very little confidence that anything would come from this. So you can imagine my surprise when my husband came home from school with the news that our school secretary had a wedding coming up in her family and was looking for someone to make cupcakes for the rehearsal dinner. To say I was thrilled would be an understatement! At that moment, Sweet Savannah Cupcakes was born.

From that order of three dozen cupcakes has come many more orders and many expansions. I remember when making cakes terrified me, and now that’s about half of the orders that leave my house. What a blessing to see where I began and where the Lord has taken me!
